Lesley of The Debris Field had this quiz on her blog - she was T. S. Eliot, a very fine poet. Me, well, it seems I'm depraved!

You're Lolita!

by Vladimir Nabokov

Considered by most to be depraved and immoral, you are obsessed with
sex. What really tantalizes you is that which deviates from societal standards in every
way, though you admit that this probably isn't the best and you're not sure what causes
this desire. Nonetheless, you've done some pretty nefarious things in your life, and
probably gotten caught for them. The names have been changed, but the problems are real.
Please stay away from children.

Are You Using Big Words on Me Girl?

Cuz I don't cotton to no big damn words around here. . .

Very scary and discouraging, and all too true: Dumb and Dumber: Are Americans Hostile to Knowledge? By Patricia Cohen for the New York Times. (I mean, look at the “patriotic” right wingers who equate the French with terrorists.)

I remember a national poll that came out a few years ago about what employers and co-workers dislike most in a fellow employee. Chronic lateness? Nope. Taking credit for other’s work, or slacking off? Nope. Top of the list was: a good vocabulary.

This country has always been paranoid of people who they even suspect of being "smart," as if the person who has manners, or uses big words, or knows that fucking Europe isn't a country! are up to no good.

Sweet jesus, we’re going to hell.

I like this blog I just discovered, It doesn't have anything to do with the estoeric, unless you consider things like the general surreal nature of celebrity and high fashion to be esoteric. Which I do. There's no UFO Bigfoot type stuff on there, as far as I can tell, and who knows what they may think of such things. But I like the writing and the blog, so I'm posting it here. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to put a link to it on Women Of Esoterica, since WOE is Fortean focused. Hey, I like that! "Fortean Focused."
