Vintage Ads: Personal Hygiene

This poor wife is locked away from her husband's affections. I wonder why?

Maybe it's because her husband met a woman like this:

No, it's because this poor wife isn't using Lysol!

Vintage Vibrator From Hamilton Beach

From the ad:

"To the skin it brings a little flush of color that lingers." And "to the body it brings a tingling, cheerful glow that invigorates and refreshes."

It's "motor driven and all under our control." Nice to know.

I think the best part is not only the "six special attachments" that come with it, but the "300 page library bound book, profusely illustrated" that details uses.

Marcel Marceau Passes at 84

Legendary mime Marcel Marceau dies at 84.

Sad news. I saw him perform in Los Angeles in the 1970s; it was a wonderful performance.

Nick Redfern's Blogs

Nick Redfern, UFO, Bigfoot, crypto spy author, has more than one blog. He has a blog about cryptids. He has one on UFOs and related strangeness that he runs with Greg Bishop.

His interests aren't all just of the world of the weird variety. He also has a blog about politics, and not just politics, but the "jack boots" as he calls them; the Big Brother Global Theocracy Fascist kind. You know, the thing we've been living with for some time now, but hardly anyone's paying any damn attention.

And he has a blog called Things I Wanna Talk About, like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols.

Cool. And glad to see that I, and Lesley (Debris Field, Lesley Land, Beyond the Dial) aren't the only ones obsessed with blogs.

Cheesy Cover Art

I'm a big fan of vintage cover art from all kind of genres: hard boiled detective fiction, sci fi, etc. Here's one, for no reason, except I like the juxtaposition of the title "Swamp Women," and the cheesy art.

Operation Virgin: New Book on Joan of Arc

This new book has new theories on who Joan of Arc was, and it promises to be controversial. It’s on my reading list:

New book angers historians with claims maid was not an illiterate peasant but a royal.

She was a peasant teenager inspired by voices from God to lead the French against the English, and burned as a witch before being recognised as a hero and saint. For centuries, France's cult of Joan of Arc has been seized on by politicians looking for patriotic martyr figures, including by Nicolas Sarkozy during his presidential campaign.

According the authors, Joan of Arc was not an innocent, uneducated and simple young girl, possessed by religious visions, but a trained and educated “spy” by the courts:
n L'Affaire Jeanne d'Arc, or the Joan of Arc Affair, French investigative journalist Marcel Gay and former secret service agent Roger Senzig claim that France's most famous virgin peasant was the illegitimate daughter of the French queen consort, Isabeau of Bavaria, who groomed her for use as a political puppet. They claim Joan was manipulated in a cover-up they call Operation Virgin.

We're turtles for the taking

So says this guy on The Darker Side of UFOs. His ideas may be the case, who knows. My point here isn't the specific content, it's the overall tone. Dark indeed. We're all lunch. Dinner. Food. For "them."

It occurred to me that this dark view is just what likes. All that purple prose yellow journalism stuff. Fear, run for your lives, poison, evil Jews, etc. It's all awful terrible horrible dreary stuff, and you can find it on!

I'm not naive. We need to know the truth, and much of what appears on you won't find other places. The facts of a thing. But just as much, well, they're not the facts, the truth, they're opinions. And dark, bleak opinions of paranoia, fear, bigotry.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think holding hands and singing folk songs is going to solve the problems of the world, or stop the madness in Iraq (our doing) or heal the earth.

But I can't help the feeling I get from that he/they like it; somehow revel in the exploitation.

Bush: More Spy Laws!!!!

Bush calls for expansion of spy law

President Bush speaks to the media during his visit to the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Md., Wednesday. Vice President Dick Cheney, left, and Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell stand behind him.

In 2006, the Bush administration filed 2,181 applications for warrants to perform surveillance in national security cases. The law governing such "foreign intelligence surveillance" searches was modified last month but expires in February. Congress plans to take up new legislation this fall.

Here are key differences between the former and current law, along with differences over proposed changes:

Previous law

Required a court warrant to intercept electronic communications carried by a U.S. wire or fiber-optic cable, even if both parties were based abroad.

2007 law

Phone calls and e-mails can be intercepted without a warrant if one or both parties are "reasonably believed" to be abroad and the subject of a national security or terrorism investigation.

Proposed law

• Director of National Intelligence and Bush administration want to make the 2007 law permanent and add immunity from lawsuits for telecom companies that helped intelligence agencies carry out eavesdropping.

• The ACLU and some congressional Democrats want some judicial review of eavesdropping on communications to or from the USA. They oppose lawsuit immunity for telecom companies.

By Richard Willing, USA TODAY
By David Jackson, USA TODAY
Saying older surveillance laws were "dangerously out of date," President Bush pressed anew Wednesday for Congress to pass permanent legislation that allows intelligence agencies to carry out warrantless surveillance on all communications of a foreign terror suspect.

Legislation passed by Congress last month "has helped close a critical intelligence gap, allowing us to collect important foreign intelligence and information about terrorist plots," Bush said after he was briefed at the National Security Agency.

"The problem is the law expires on February 1 — that's 135 days from today. The threat from al-Qaeda is not going to expire in 135 days," Bush said.

"1, 2, 3, 4 . . . What Are We Fighting For?"

It's not free speech, that's for sure. Or right to listen to our elected ones. Or the right of assembly. Or the right to question. Or the right to write.

If we're supposedly fighting for civil rights and free speech and the American Way, someone didn't pass the memo along.

For all of you out there who support this current war, you all just better rethink what the hell you're on about.

Htichcock's The Birds: A True Fortean Film

I'm a Hitchcock fan, and love all his films. I enjoy The Birds very much, but in my opinion not one of his best; not one of my top favorites. But that's almost a non issue, since it's still a good film and a classic.

AMC is showing Hitchcock films all this week; last night was Dial M for Murder, tonight was Rope and The Birds. All very very enjoyable.

I'll watch any Hitchcock film when it comes on, and have seen The Birds many many times. Tonight I was reminded that it's really a Fortean film. The birds appear, for no "reason." And none is given. It's a freakish, unexpected, weird thing that happens, suddenly, and seemingly stops suddenly. At least, the main characters get away, and yet . . .

Why did the birds, so many thousands of them, come? Why did they come there? No answers. Just the frightening, anomalous experience in a small town.

Study on left-wing, right-wing: If that’s So, Why Diss Ghosts?

I’ve long held the opinion that liberals, those on the left, (as am I) get very nervous around UFOs and related topics, and suddenly turn into pompous, smug, “enlightened” randi-bots if you start talking ghosts, UFOs, Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster. I was just having this conversation the other day with a couple of people; we’re all good lefties, each of us, and yet there’s no way we can expect our bros and sistahs to get with the program once we’ve changed the channel to haunted house central.

On Arianna Huffington’s blog there’s a link to a study that found left wingers and right wingers think differently. Duh. This is what they found:
Previous psychological studies have found that conservatives tend to be more structured and persistent in their judgments whereas liberals are more open to new experiences. The latest study found those traits are not confined to political situations but also influence everyday decisions.

Okay, sounds good. But why is that this same openness isn’t carried over to fringe topics like UFOs, etc?

Of course, my opinion is only my opinion based on personal experience, I’ve never done a scientific study on this. And I know plenty of leftists who aren’t squeamish around these topics, not at all. Just seems that overall, most liberals really get that “glassy eyed stare” when you bring up UFOs, etc. and you can just tell you’ve gone down about 100 points in their estimation of you.

Tucker Carlson: Ignorant Boy, You!

The Trickster Disconnect: Women, Mind Control, and anti-Semitism

The Trickster is an inherent part of the UFO phenomena, and all Fortean type stuff. But that’s not the only arena where Trickster lives. It lives in pop culture and culture, sexuality/sexual politics, the mundane world where we go off to work each day, etc. It’s in this context that I realized the presence of Trickster when I came across Mad Makow’s (Henry Makow) piece on his misogynist-paranoid-anti-semitic site “”: Illuminati Sex Slaves Paint Horrifying Picture.

I believe our government has/is responsible for the worst kinds of mind control, torture and nonconsensual experiments on its citizens, including women. I believe that women like Leah Haley and the ones Makow discusses are telling the truth. I believe there’s a global corporate control entity responsible for just about everything lousy, rotten and evil going on in the world. I believe we caused 9/11. Yes, put the tin foil hat on me but as those who pride themselves on being rational insist, follow the data. I’ve followed the data, and that’s where it’s led me. But that’s beside the point.

So far, much of what I’ve said isn’t far off from what people like, say, David Icke or Henry Makow believe. Which is such an astounding disconnect I can’t bring myself to acknowledge such a thing. Still, the truth is the truth. Or at least my truth is the truth, and my truth is that, if you can’t see that “they” are running the show, you’re not paying attention.

The question isn’t “are they” it’s who are they? In Makow’s world, “they” are the Illuminati. Which is code for Jews. So the evil Jews are the ones running the whole show.

Including the torture and mind control experiments on women. Victims like Brice Taylor, author of Thanks for the Memories (1999) and Cathy O'Brien (with Mark Phillips) author of Trance-Formation of America (1995) along with Candy Jones, Leah Haley; all women used and abused by “them.”

I have no doubt at all “they” are, and have been, in control for a very long time and are responsible for heinous acts. It is a closely aligned power group of individuals who work together; how else would things get done? But “they” are not Reptilian Jew Overlords, or Evil Jew Bankers; or descendants of contaminated bloodlines poisoned by -- yeah, -- Jews. They’re human. They’re human, like the rest of us, and some of them are Jews, and some of them are Christians, and some of them may have a distant relative who fucked royalty, but they’re all human, and they’re all bastards, and that’s the end of it.

Giant lizards aren’t sleeping in the white house, though some days I wonder. There’s a lot of very bad bad things going on, and closed circles of power hungry mostly male mostly white humans are responsible. But their “Jewishness” or lack of has nothing to do with anything, any more than the ones who come from Presbyterian or Catholic or Methodist or Baptist or non-denominational Unitarian whatever.

That’s the constant, subtle message in the rantings of people like Makow and others; that it’s Jews who are the ones Behind Everything Bad.

In a jolting huge moment of “WTF?!” Makow makes this comment:
Muslim fundamentalists call America the "Great Satan." In the above terms, they are correct. I'm not sure if they are pure themselves but the Muhajadin appear to be the true defenders of freedom against the New World Order.

Yeah, until they force us to convert by the hanging sword or die in our noble refusal to renounce our beliefs. Way to go Makow.

Like disinfo of all kinds, whether it’s UFOs, the Kennedy assassination (and King, and Malcolm X, and Bobby Kennedy, and Lennon, and Diana. . .,) or mind control, there’s truth in there. There’s also the Trickster, presenting us with contradictions, juxtapositions, disconnects and strange bedfellows. It’s easier to acknowledge all this while putting a face on it; for Makow it’s the Jews, for others it’s nasty aliens (ETs) -- for myself; it’s sort of a combination of us, a few nasty ETs, but mostly, just the ugly side of human nature. After thousands of years we still haven’t figured it out; we still war, we still kill, we still crave power and enjoy torturing others. It’s also human nature to want to find a scapegoat, and for some, it’s Jews, for others, it’s some other race/culture/ethnic group, or, some gender based group. Whoever your scapegoat is, know that it isn’t that simple. It just can’t be that easy. The Trickster makes sure of that.

Rense Rinse

Jeff Rense can always be counted on for bringing both disingenuous and more overt, even vile at time, anti-Semitic links to our attention. Like conspiracies in general, UFOs, the paranormal, Bigfoot and all other kinds of high strangeness Fortean stuff, accusing/exposing/bringing to light anti-Semitism is just not at all fashionable, particularly on the left.

I was just having this conversation with someone today; we’re all good lefty liberals, but when it comes to the above subjects -- including the ever growing belief the U.S. staged the events of 9/11 -- we’re no longer welcome. For the most part, the Left doesn’t want a damn thing to do with any of it.

Anyway. I followed this headline/link on Jewry Should Sue The Jewish
Bankers Who Financed It
, which didn’t have an author cited, but it did have a link to: Jewish Following that, I found a blog of the same name, with a link to its website. That site has such items as The Manufacture and Sale of Saint Einstein (er, can a Jew be a saint?) by someone named Christopher Jon Bjerknes and Christian Zionism: A Contradiction in Terms. Bjerknes is responsible for most all of the material on his blog and site. It's the typical confusing jumbled mess of wrongly applied hate, but it always surprises me (I don't know why) when I find things like this.

Mad Makow Gets Right To It

Mad Makow: This Time He Gets Right to It

Henry Makow, Mating Hedgehogs favorite paranoid misogynist, is at it again. This time, he gets right to it with the first sentence of his latest piece (chiefly linked to by Jeff Rense on Independent Historian Unveils Cabalist Conspiracy:
David Livingstone, 41, author of "Terrorism and the Illuminati - A Three Thousand Year History" (2007) says Cabalists determined to be God have hijacked mankind.

(Makow, for those of you unfamiliar with the creator of the board game Scruples, hates Jews, lesbians, sexually active single people, especially women, Jews, bankers, the Illuminati, Jews, commies, pinko red damn commies, Jews, feminists, Hollywood, and Jews. Oh, and he hates Jews.)

Makow is Jewish, when it suits him. Sometimes he isn’t Jewish, really, but his grandmother was. Other times he’s a Christian, who still holds his Jewish roots dear. Other times he’s appalled at Judaism and Jews, particularly Zionism. Whatever. The dude’s meshuga, that’s for sure.
Anyway, the Kabbalah (or Cabalists, doesn’t matter, “two Jews, three opinions) is the basis for all evil occult doings:
Livingstone says that all occult movements originate in the Cabala (which dates to 6th century B.C. Babylon.) The Kabbalah is a Jewish heresy because it does not uphold the universal moral standards enunciated by Moses. (This is the Judaism I identify with.)

Oh, okay, so today Makow “identifies” with the Judaism du jour, as “enunciated” by Moses. Who, by the way, had a speech impediment, I ask you, how articulate could he be?

Anyway, Makow goes on, blah blah, about “wanna be Jews” who aren’t “real Jews,” and lots of “real Jews” are getting duped by the Evil Jews Who Run Everything. You know, bankers, Hollywood, the usual.

Lots more about the “history” of these Evil Jews Who . . . and by the way, Livingstone is an “independent” historian. And we know that almost always, when we come across the phrase “independent historian” it’s code for “crazy ass paranoid bigot with his head up his tush.”

Ann Coulter link, Simply Jews blog

(Don't let the title fool you into thinking Simply Jews loves Ann Coulter!)
Ann Coulter is a loon, but that goes without saying. So why am I putting a link to her site? I dunno, dahlings, just feeling perverse, or flip, or something. I found the link while over on the very excellent Simply Jews blog, a blog I don’t give enough attention to but will try to do more of from now on. By the way, the link was via an ad on the blog, that’s randomly generated.
